BetterZip 1.7.1 Released
Yesterday was not a day that I will remember especially proudly. I have released version 1.7 without testing it as thoroughly as I should have, although I changed major parts of the application. And so two bugs slipped in that caused some crashes and frowns. It speaks highly of the Mac community that no one started calling me names, but rather you all remained calm and friendly. I apologize for any inconvenience, and thanks for your patience.
To spare us all another such unfortunate release, I am going to start a more rigid beta testing regime and will not release a new version without prior beta testing. If you are interested in participating in the beta test group, please contact me by e-mail.

betterzip [still] strangely seems unable to expand some .sit files. granted, it is very rare, but i have come across about half a dozen .sit/stuffit archives which betterzip can not process. i think i mentioned something to this effect in a comment on your blog a while back. one example which is always retrievable is this one;
http://www.gaianmysteryschool.com/timesurfer/TimeSurfer.sit
anything strange about this file?
have you discovered any particular reasons why [rarely] some .sit files are incompatible with betterzip?
also, i would feel remiss if i didn't mention that i have been using betterzip since version 1.4 and aside from this occasional problem with stuffit archives, betterzip has been massively useful to me and the quickness with which you have remedied other quirks in the program throughout the releases i have seen so far, has been pretty astounding.
This particular SIT file has a format I don't recognize. It's apparently valid, since StuffIt Expander can extract it, but the library that BetterZip uses doesn't recognize it and neither do I.
I don't understand developers who publish their software StuffIt compressed in a time when Mac OS X can handle zip files without extra software. If you are in contact with the developers of TimeSurfer, you could ask them to repackage their app in zip format.
And thanks for your kind words. That's always the best motivation.
