BetterZip 1.8.3 Released

The new version fixes two small problems with the previous version: TAR files couldn't be opened reliably on Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) and the new header encryption would be dropped when re-saving an encrypted archive. Download BetterZip 1.8.3

Perfect, thanks a lot :)

Using this latest version, and encountered some problem.

Zipping a mp4 file which has subtitle being added with Subler.
After unzipping the file, the soft subtitle track is no longer there (or no longer working as it should...).

I tried to zip the file with the Leopard Finder Compress function, it unzipped with everything intact and working properly.

So, why BetterZip never work as intended? It made some changes to the original file?

Very strange. I can see no reason why BetterZip should remove subtitles from a movie file. Are the subtitles stored in a resource fork and your BetterZip preferences are set to remove resource forks? Could you create a small enough sample that shows the effect and send it to me by e-mail?

Hi Robert,
I change the setting at the preference but both files show the same results.
I will create a sample clip and send to you. Thank you for your reply.

Is there any chance we'll see a 64 Bit version with multi core support? That would be really nice!

Regards,

Michael

BetterZip supports multiple cores for some years now. The next major version will also have a 64-bit binary.

Robert,

One suggestion to consider for the future... I've always liked that WinZip lets you view the archive contents completely flat and sort based on file size, file type, and date modified; this often makes it easier to find a file that I was looking for. Currently, Better Zip's flat view still keeps the files listed in order of their folder.

Thanks,
Jesse

Funny, no one ever reported this bug. I'll fix it with the next update. In the meantime click the column header twice to resort the files.
