Partial Progress bar even when zip file creation is finished

Hi,

I have the problem that when I create a zip file (zip format, best compression) the transcript shows that everything completed okay, but the progress bar hangs about halfway through. I end up quitting and relauching betterzip.

The archive looks fine, I can extract it okay, but I have been burned by corrupt archives in the past and this worries me, as I feel like I need to check the archive every time.

This behavior does not occur for 7zip or rar, only for zip.

I can send screenshots if that would help.

Thanks in advance,

-Charles

Yes, please, a screenshot might help. Does this happen with every zip archive creation? E.g., try compressing a single small file to your desktop. Which versions of BetterZip and Mac OS X do you use?

I am running Mac OS X 10.6.2 and betterzip 1.8.3

I restarted because of the recent security update and the behavior stopped. I hate problems that stop by themselves because they can start again. If it starts again, I will try and pin down under what conditions it happens. Thanks for the offer to help.

One follow-up. I looked in the console for error messages and funny enough, there is the following every time I run betterzip

1/22/10 11:43:31 AM BetterZip[11141] couldn't move /Users/[deleted]/Desktop/[deleted]/.BetterZipTempFolder_001ff359201c_2009-11-10 15:37:06 -0500/ to the trash. Error 2

This folder hasn't been there for a while. I am sure that this isn't a problem, just FYI.

The console entry is not a real problem, but it's going to be written in the console every time you run BetterZip. I'll add a fix for this in the next version. You could stop this by cleanly quitting BetterZip, then executing this command in the Terminal:
defaults delete com.macitbetter.betterzip MIBTempFolders
