Zip and email

Hello,
I would find useful, to have possiblity to create an archive and send it directly to Email.
Most likely is possible to do with Automator, but why not to include? I am not so good in programming!
Thanks and congratulations for good software.
Regards

Hide Folders on Flat List view

Hi,

I ususally order files by modified date, across multiple folders.
Usually I want to delete files older than certain date without deleting the folders that don't reflect the modified date of containing files.

great work.
thanks

Update ZIPfile when files were modified

Maybe I am too stupid and BetterZip already has this feature but here's my idea:

When I doubleclick a file within a zip archive it is being decompressed to a temorary folder (Library/Caches/TemporaryItems/...) and then opened with the standard application. OK, but when I change this file and save it, BetterZip simply erases this temporary file without recognizing that is was changed so the new data gets lost.
Wouldn't it be useful to get a message like "Files from your archive have been modified, would you like to update the archive?" when you close BetterZip?

---

Thanks/Danke, DesertFOX

Hidden options in Secrets

Hi Robert,

Just a thought, but since you've got quite a few hidden options in BetterZip it might be a good idea to add them to Secrets. This offers a convenient way of switching hidden options on and off without having to track down the respective command each time.

It would also be a nice solution for those terrified of the terminal.

Always open in PathFinder

Hi Robert,

I'm an avid user of PathFinder as a alternative to Finder. As you may know, we PathFinder users are on a constant journey of optimising PathFinder's system integration. Thereby, I stumbled over a somewhat odd behavior in BetterZip.

Whilst most applications tend to call either Finder or PathFinder when using something like a "reveal in Finder" command, BetterZip appears to be randomly using the one or the other. I noticed this when using the "1-Click Extract" option. BetterZip will open either a Finder or PathFinder window afterwards, and I yet have to understand the pattern by which it chooses what application to call.

Therefore, it would be great if you could add an "always open in PathFinder" option to a future release. Since only a small portion of users will actually need this it might as well be a hidden option.

Thomas

Single window interface

Is there a way to have a single window interface? I've bought BetterZip now that the cpio stuff is working properly and am really enjoying it; it's a great help with my work.

The problem I'm having now is that if I dig into two rpm files at the same time to get at the patches, I end up with 3 windows per rpm, so in this instance 6 windows in total. This is because I have one window to view the .rpm contents (a cpio.gz file), one to view the cpio.gz file (the contents being a cpio archive), and finally the contents of the .cpio archive which is really the only window I care about.

What would be ideal for me, anyways, is that you have one window per "master" archive, so in my case one window for the rpm. If I double-click on an internal archive, instead of opening a new window, just shift the "view" of the current window to the contents of the new archive. Maybe offer a "back" button to move up one "level". Likewise, if I double-click on the cpio file, the main window shifts again to view the contents of the cpio file; if I press back then I get the cpio.gz contents, and back again to get the rpm contents. This way I could get 2 windows on my desktop instead of 6 and I think it would be more intuitive and less confusing.

Maybe this is something that can be done already but I didn't see anything when poking around in the preferences.

Other than this, BetterZip is working absolutely great. I would really like to see something like this as it would make using BetterZip more enjoyable.

Some features that I miss from WinRAR

Betterzip really is the best archiver on OSX. Very well done.

However, there are a few things that I miss from winrar, and that's dealing with the creation and/or extraction of multiple zip/rar files.

With winrar, i could pick a bunch of files in the explorer window and right click and choose 'create archive'.
This would bring up a dialog with options. I could split the archive, put passwords on it, etc. The splitting was great because we often use zip/rar to transfer stuff from one office to another thru ftp. Breaking up the files makes it easier because of the threaded transfers that those apps allow.

The other thing i would love to see is another right click in finder option where i can select multiple zip files and pick one of two choices :
* Extract here
* Extract to [dirname listed is the name of the first zip]

this allows me to quickly extract things with multiple zip files and not have to worry about having it create a ton of directories of the zip file names, but still have it create directories contained IN the zip files.

Other than that, it's all good. I really dig the app.

archive-to-archive drag-and-drop capability

It sure would be convenient if BetterZip was able to accept files from one open BZ archive to be dragged and dropped into another open BZ archive. As it stands now, if I want to add a file from one BZ archive to another, I first have to extract the file of interest to disk. Once that's done, I then can add the extracted file to the other BZ archive. I then delete the temporary file extracted to disk.

I mention this because I've been able to do Stuffit archive-to-archive drag-and-drop for years now without first having to create an intermediate, temporary file on disk -- just so that I can get one file from one archive into another archive.

Dragging files from one Betterzip window to another Betterzip window

Hi,

It would be very nice if you can transfer files from one zip file to another.
This can be done very fast by just dragging a file from one Betterzip window to another Betterzip window.

Default to '1-Click save' re-map CMD-S?

It would be nice if I check the "Default to 1-click save" option that CMD-S would also default to 1-click save.

Think this is a possibility? If not, could we get a CMD-SHIFT-S or something to 1-click save?

I'm on the verge of purchasing a license, as I'm somewhat fed up with Stuffit and the built in compression options.

Also, I saw some information on contextual menus - are those still in the works?

Thanks!

Activity Window (Similar to Unarchiver)

Would it be possible to have an activity window similar to the unarchiver window, instead of the current progess window.

So when you have an archive extracting and you try to extract more, they get get stacked below the each other like a queue.

Keep broken files option

Hey there!

First i have to say this is the best app for os x i have encountered for a while! it has replaced the 5 or so programs i used before to extract various archive types. I love it, finally a good extraction program.

I only have one suggestion and that would be giving the option to let betterzip keep the files of a broken multi split archive instead of just displaying an error message. This is a handy feature that i used to use in Winrar and would really make the app perfect for me ;).

Thanks a million, keep it up!

Regards,

Vans

Option to auto save

Hi,

I was wondering if there was any chance of having an option to auto save when modifying an archive instead of having to manually do it or be warned when you don't before quitting. Not to compare, but in the same manor that "Springy" does it.

Thanks,
Option not to expand folders

Greetings,

I like your quicklook generator very much, but I was wondering whether you could make the expansion of folders optional. Reason being, I need to work with large archives (zips) which contain lots of nested folders.

Thanks and keep up the excellent work,
