BetterZip 5.4.1 is out now
Robert, 2026-03-18
Here is the latest update to BetterZip. This version includes a number of internal changes that won’t be visible to you directly, but they should enhance overall stability and performance.
Work on BetterZip 6 is progressing nicely and I will soon start beta testing. If you are interested in participating in the closed beta test run, please get in touch!
Here are the details for version 5.4.1:
Enhancements
- Drag-to-select now mimics Finder’s behavior more closely: Clicking on a filename starts dragging, while clicking the whitespace next to the filename starts selecting files.
- You can now configure in which folders the Finder extension will run and add a BetterZip item to Finder’s contextual menu. It could clash with other Finder extensions, especially on cloud drives. I renamed the Quick Look tab in the settings window to “Extensions” and moved all extension settings there.
- Updated the built-in unrar to the latest version.
- Increased the text size in the presets configuration for better readability.
- When extracting an archive with minor errors, you can choose to ignore these errors. Make sure to check the extracted files though.
- Enhanced and updated the Japanese localization. Thank you, Koichi!
Bug Fixes
- CRX Chrome extensions can be opened and extracted again.
- Fixed a possible crash when viewing or previewing multiple files in succession too quickly.
- When moving a non-archive item to the trash in the sidebar, it wasn’t also removed from the Favorites sidebar.
If you find any problems, please do get in touch and report them. Thanks!
