Slideshow

BetterZip 6 can show every image in the current archive listing full-screen, one at a time, without extracting the archive first.

Starting the slideshow

Choose View > Slideshow or press ⌃⌘F. BetterZip switches to a black full-screen window, hides the menu bar and Dock, and shows the first image at or after the current selection. If nothing is selected, the slideshow starts at the first image in the listing.

The slideshow draws from every image in the visible archive listing, in order. Folders are skipped automatically; only files whose type conforms to image are shown. To restrict the slideshow to a subset, filter the archive first using the search field or one of the filters.

Navigation

  • / – previous image
  • / – next image
  • Esc – exit the slideshow

Navigation is fully manual – BetterZip does not auto-advance on a timer. While the next image is being extracted from the archive, a spinner is shown until the image is ready.

Zoom

  • + / = – zoom in
  • - – zoom out
  • 0 – actual size (100 %)
  • / – fit the image to the screen

When the image is larger than the screen, you can drag it with the mouse to pan around.

Quick Look and double-click

Of course, you can still view images in these other ways:

  • Just open the preview sidebar.
  • Press Space on a selected image for the standard macOS Quick Look preview.
  • Double-click an image to extract it to BetterZip’s temporary cache and open it in the application macOS associates with the image’s type (usually Preview).
