View Modes

BetterZip shows the contents of an open archive in one of four view modes. Pick the one that fits your needs. Switch any time from the View menu or with the keyboard shortcuts below; the choice is global, so the next archive you open inherits the same view.

Flat List

Every item in the archive in a single sortable table, regardless of which folder it lives in. Useful when you want to scan the whole archive at once or sort by size, date, or kind across all folders.

Switch via View > Flat List (⌘1).

Outline View

The classic hierarchical view with disclosure triangles. Folders expand in place. This is the default and the best fit for most archives.

Switch via View > Outline View (⌘2).

Column View

Like Finder’s column view: each folder you step into opens as a new column to the right while the parent columns stay visible. To preview the selected item, open the preview pane (View > Preview, ⌥⌘P).

Switch via View > Column View (⌘3).

Icon View

Each item is shown with a large file-type icon and its name underneath. Adjust icon size with View > Zoom In and Zoom Out (⌃⌘+ / ⌃⌘-).

Switch via View > Icon View (⌘4).
